Marlena Mashburn
Teacher

I am excited to be in the classroom after 7 years of retirement. I have known that I wanted to be a math teacher since I was in the 9th grade. I taught my first two years at Western Grove School just outside of Harrison. The next 24 years, I taught at Russellville High School, my alma mater. I was also an adjunct professor at Arkansas Tech University in the mathematics department for many years.

I was born and raised in Russellville. I am fortunate to still have my parents. I have a younger sister, Lezli, who passed away 7 years ago. She blessed me with a niece, Emily, and a nephew, Isaac.

I went to Arkansas Tech University for all three of my degrees:
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education
Masters in Mathematics Education
Masters in School Guidance & Counseling
I love learning new things in education as well as other skills. Recently, I’ve tried basket weaving, sewing and baking.

I can’t wait to see what this school year has in store for all of us at Valley Christian School.
